Pastrana/Edstrom are 2006 Rally America National Champions
Houghton, MI - Subaru Rally Team USA driver Travis Pastrana has secured
the Overall Driver's title of 2006 Rally America National Championship
by finishing third at the Lake Superior Performance Rally.
Pastrana held a strong lead in the championship coming into the
event this weekend and needed only a 6th place or better to
mathematically secure the title. However, Pastrana's chief rival
Matt Iorio crashed out of the rally early on Friday thus handing
Pastrana the title with day two of the rally, as well as the final
round of the season still to come. The event was won by Subaru
Rally Team USA driver Ken Block and co-driver Alex Gelsomino.
The team's final event of the season is the Wild West Rally on December 1-3, 2006 in Olympia, WA.

Pastrana/Edstrom Win Rally Gold at X Games 12
Los Angeles, CA - The first ever X Games Rally has ended in spectacular fashion with Travis
Pastrana edging out WRC legend and Subaru teammate Colin McRae to win Gold at
the wheel of his BFGoodrich Tires shod Subaru Impreza WRX STI rally car.
But it was Colin McRae who stole the show after he rolled his Sobe No
Fear Subaru on the final jump of the course, landed on his wheels and drove to
the finish for the Silver Medal. Subaru Rally Team USA driver Ken
Block, and his co-driver Alex Gelsomino, netted 3rd and the Bronze
Medal. The event was broadcast live on ABC and thrilled thousands
of new fans at The Home Depot Center in Los Angeles. It was a
clean sweep for Subaru and Vermont SportsCar as all three cars on the podium
were Vermont SportsCar prepared Subaru Impreza WRX STI rally cars.

and trouble free all weekend. The strong finish catapults Pastrana well
in to the lead of the Overall standings of the hotly contested 2006
Rally America National Championship. Pastrana will headline the first

finish second at STPR
Atlanta,
MI - Subaru Rally Team USA driver
Travis Pastrana and co-driver Christian
Edstrom have finished 2nd Overall on the damp high speed gravel roads
of the Susquehannock Trail Performance Rally (STPR). The 21
year old X Games star battled one of the strongest fields of rally
drivers ever assembled at a North American event, while struggling to
overcome severe illness which had him in the emergency room just hours
prior to the rally start. The strong result vaults Pastrana
into a tie at the top of the season standings of the Rally America
National Championship, with four of nine rounds completed.
Ken
Block and Alex Gelsomino unfortunately were forced to retire from the
event due to a rollover. Both were unhurt.

finish second at Sno*Drift Rally
Atlanta,
MI -
The Sno*Drift rally was a great success for SRT USA,
with Travis Pastrana and Christian Edstrom clinching 2nd place overall,
and Ken Block and Alex Gelsomino in the sister car not far behind in
fourth overall.
Travis and Christian led the rally after nine stages, but on the first
run through one of the longest stages on the rally, Travis and
Christian ran over a
rock in the road, immediately flattening both right tires, thirteen
miles into the twenty five mile stage. With only one spare,
the
team was forced to drive out on a flat rear tire and lost six minutes
on the stage. With a spirited drive, Travis and Christian
were
able to recapture about four and a half minutes by the end of the
rally, but ended up 1 minute 11 seconds behind the eventual
winner, Andrew Comrie-Picard.
The team's next event is the 100 Acre Wood Rally, in Salem, Missouri.
After that, they head directly to Leon, Mexico to run WRC
Mexico.

end Colorado Cog rally in spectacular crash.
The DC Shoes/RedBull/Vermont SportsCar supported team of Travis
Pastrana and Christian Edstrom ended the Colorado Cog rally in
spectacular fashion this weekend.
In a very well-documented accident, the team entered a !L5-/Cr

a little too quickly, and hit a culvert on the outside of the L5-.
The car flipped into the air, and rolled 8 times, coming to
rest
on the co-driver door. Neither Travis nor Christian were
injured.

The DC Shoes/RedBull/Vermont SportsCar supported team of Travis
Pastrana and Christian Edstrom finished 2rd in class and 3rd Overall at

Travis

broken driveshaft and a puncture, which caused them to fall as low as
7th overall. Saturday brought a SuperSpecial at the Bemidji
Speedway and a number of fine forest stages. Some inspired
driving from Travis got the team back to 3rd place overall, but it
wasn't quite enough to overcome the deficit from Friday and
catch
Stig or Matt Iorio.

DNF at Maine Forest Rally.
The DC Shoes/RedBull/Vermont SportsCar supported team of Travis
Pastrana and Christian Edstrom failed to finish this weekend's Maine
Forest Rally, due to an accident on special stage 4.
The team got off to a very quick start, setting the 2nd fastest time on
SS2. However, on SS4, the car went off-road in a
medium speed right hand turn over crest. Entering the turn, the car
went wide onto some loose gravel and the left rear corner hit a small
tree and spun the car around, sending it into a shallow ditch, and
coming to a rest facing backwards. Travis and
Christian were totally uninjured, but surveyed the damage to the car
and determined that they would be forced
to withdraw from the event. Watch for the comeback at next
month's Ojibwe Forest Rally. |

Mitsubishi scores 1st and 3rd on weekend marred by Tragedy.
This weekend's Oregon Trail ProRally was marred by tragedy with the
deaths of competitors Mark Lovell and Roger Freeman on Saturday
morning. All of our thoughts are with their families. Mark and Roger
were fierce competitors and wonderful people. When I finished on the
podium at Rim, for my first overall podium, no one was happier for me,
or more congratulatory than Mark. We'll all miss Mark and Roger, who
brought serious levels of both professionalism and fun to our sport.
Godspeed! The organizers and SCCA, conferring with Subaru of America
and Prodrive, elected to continue the rally in honor of Mark and Roger.
Running a slightly abbreviated schedule, the Mitsubishi team took 1st
(Higgins/Barritt) and 3rd (O'Sullivan/Edstrom). Tim O'Neil and Alex
Gelsomino finished 2nd in the Air Force Reserve Ford Focus SVT. Our
next event is the Maine Forest Rally, held August 1-2 in Rumford, Maine.

Team Mitsubishi Motor Sports America struggle at Pikes Peak

The Mitsubishi Motor Sports America team had a struggle this past
weekend at Pikes Peak. Lauchlin O'Sullivan and Christian Edstrom
suffered a terminal engine failure with approximately 1.5 miles left to

finally sidelined the car a mere 800 yards from the finish. Teammates
David Higgins and Daniel Barritt were only slightly luckier, suffering
a driveline problem and eventually finishing in approximately 30
minutes. The event winners were Mark Lovell and Roger Freeman from the
Subaru of America team. With PPIHC out of the way, we're looking forward

O'Sullivan/Edstrom DNF due to deer! David Higgins and Daniel Barritt
scored an unprecedented third straight win at the Susquehannock Trails
ProRally. Teammates Lauchlin O'Sullivan and Christian Edstrom were not
as lucky, as their day ended with an accident that occurred while
trying to avoid a deer on SS6. The deer jumped onto the road about
10-15 feet in front of the car, as we were traveling about 95 mph on
SS6. Lauchlin tried to avoid hitting the deer, and damaged the
radiatior and intercooler, forcing us to retire. It was doubly
disappointing, as we were running 1-2 on the road behind David, and
both Subaru cars had retired. But things like this are what continue to
make rally the most exciting motorsport in the world. Force Majeure,
indeed. Our next event is the Pikes Peak International Hillclimb, held
June 28, in Colorado Springs, Colorado

Edstrom tests with Team Mitsubishi
Motor Sports America
I spent yesterday in Southern California, attending a pre-event test
with Team Mitsubishi Motor Sports America. Lauchlin and I had the
opportunity to work together on a number of test stages, and get
comfortable in the car, as well as continue to develop tire choices and
suspension settings. Additionally, I had the chance to meet with the
management, the technicians, Lauchlin, David, and Daniel. The precision
and coordination of the team was impressive, and incorporating a
temporary co-driver proved seamless. It was an exceptional pleasure to
work with the team, and I'm thrilled to have been asked to help them
achieve their goals this year. Now, it's two weeks preparation before
the event. I'll be meeting the team at Rim of the World on Wednesday,
April 30.
